COVID-19 cases in Uganda keep rising

The Ministry of Health has on Saturday confirmed 24 new COVID-19 cases in Uganda, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 227.

“Today, 16th May 2020, 24 new COVID-19 cases confirmed from 2,044 samples of truck drivers. This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases to 227 in Uganda,” the Ministry of Health announced on Saturday night.

The confirmed cases arrived via different border points of entry.

Elegu: 3 Ugandans and 2 Kenyans.

Mutukula: 6 Tanzanians and 1 Ugandan.

Malaba: 12 Kenyans.

Meanwhile, all 554 samples from the community tested negative for COVID-19.

Currently, Uganda has total number of 227 COVID-19 confirmed cases, 63 recoveries and no fatalities.

Earlier today, Dictator Yoweri Museveni directed that only truck drivers with negative COVID-19 test results be allowed to enter Uganda.

Subsequently, the Ministry of Health met with representatives of truck owners and National Logistics Platform and resolved to have among others all truck drivers employed in Uganda mobilised and tested for COVID-19.

“We met with National Logistics Platform of Truck Owners and resolved to mobilize, counsel and test all truck drivers employed in Uganda,” announced Health Minister Dr Ruth Aceng on Saturday.

In the same meeting with National Logistics Platform of Truck Owners, they also resolved to adopt and implement truck driver journey management system.

A mobile application for all truck drivers to be tested, monitored and quarantined within the system will ensure the drivers avoid infections as they proceed with their journeys.
